BEAGLE VACCINATION
AND DE-WORMING SCHEDULE

This is the vaccination and de-worming routine I use on each and every one of my Beagles. Depending on what age a puppy or dog leaves my care, this is the complete health care routine I follow up to the point-of-sale. No vaccination or deworming schedule is 100% full-proof as noted in the next two paragraphs, but I believe this vaccination/de-worming routine is as close to perfection as a person can give their dog with the currently available vaccines made by Neotech (Neopar) and Pfizer (Fort Dodge) and the de-wormer made by Bayer (Drontal). I strongly recommend that all Beagle owners follow this vaccination/deworming schedule completely for the best protection that you can give your Beagle.

NOTE 1: Beagle mothers eat the stool (feces) of all of their puppies up through the time the litter is weaned at about 5 weeks of age. This is how the mother Beagle keeps her puppies clean and healthy. Thus Beagle puppies learn the habit of stool eating from their mother and therefore most Beagle puppies will eat stool up until the age of about 16 weeks (4 months). This includes the stool from littermates, themselves, or even other animals. New Beagle puppy owners should be aware of this fact and try to keep all feces cleaned up as quickly as possible to help prevent your puppy from eating stool. When a Beagle puppy eats stool it will catch canine intestinal worms as well as the intestinal protozoans called Coccidia and/or Giardia. The good news is that your Beagle puppy will outgrow this learned habit with age and it is rare to see a puppy that still eats stool after the age of 16 weeks (4 months). The bad news is that all Beagle puppy owners need to be alert to signs of stool eating and try your best to keep all stool cleaned up as quickly as possible. Should your pup get stomach worms then you should give the puppy another dose of Drontal Allwormer. Should your puppy show signs of diarrhea/bloody stool from catching the internal protozoans, then you can get your puppy a prescription of Albon or buy the over-the-counter generic antibiotic named Sulfadimethoxine. Neither canine intestinal worms nor intestinal protozoans caused by stool eating are life-threatening and the nonprescription drugs to clear up both things are very inexpensive; especially if you buy your nonprescription antibiotic medications online from Lambert Vet Supply and your nonprescription dewormers online from VetShopOnline. Both of these websites charge much, much less than any Veterinarian and both sites are secure shopping sites that take all major credit cards.

NOTE 2: There is currently a new strain of Parvo in the environment that has come over from Europe and it is known as Parvo "F Strain". There is no Parvo shot made to protect against this current strain, which is the 7th mutation of the Parvo disease. Here is a link to the information on the New York Pug Club website (http://nypugclub.org/health/parvo.htm) . This new strain of Parvo effects small to medium size breeds such as Beagles, Pugs, etc . This new strain of Parvo can live in the environment for up to one year, it can be caught by simple airborne exposure, it shows symptoms within 4 days of exposure, and it can kill a completely healthy and vaccinated pup or young dog within 8 hours after symptoms show. I strongly encourage owners of Beagles that are one year or less in age to be as cautious as possible where you take your pet for walks and be cautious of any other dogs that may come in contact with your pet. As soon as a new Parvo shot is developed to protect against Parvo "F Stain", I encourage Beagle owners to get the new shot for any young Beagle that is less than one (1) year of age. For now, Neotech Neopar and Fort Dodge Duramune Max 5-CvK/4L are the best Parvo protections made and always remember that an ounce of prevention (protection) is much cheaper and less heart-breaking than a pound of cure.
